Vietnam a developing country that shares the border with China and is just 843 miles away from Wuhan the epicenter of the coronavirus. Vietnam sharing 683 miles longboarder with china has only reported 270 infected with zero fatalities since the outbreak began in January. 225 people have already been home after making a full recovery.

After the New Year celebration at the end of January Vietnam’s government had said that it was “Declaring war” against the coronavirus even when the Chinese government was still confined about the outbreak. Now the reason why Vietnam has no deaths was taken control by three ways of government testing.

Temperature screening:

From the beginning of February, any people arriving in the major cities should compulsorily get through the temperature screening and their travel history with their contact details to follow up on their health. Anyone with a body temperature above 100F was taken in the nearby hospital and was thoroughly checked. With fewer medical supplies and having only 900 intensive care beds in the capital (Ho Chi Minh) the country had to decide everything beforehand to prevent any error.

Airport and country lockdown:

Since mid-February, the people coming to Vietnam were screened and kept under 14 days of total quarantine and were tested for COVID-19. If anyone were in direct contact with the infected person then the person would go under quarantine and if the person does not show up then they can be criminally charged. In March Vietnam started to keep their major cities under lockdown and to move from one city to another was also banned. If they had to go to another city then they need to be quarantined for 14 days and have to stay at the government-approved facilities which they must finance themselves. To fight against the coronavirus the Vietnam government kept 10000 people in quarantine on February 12 who came from other countries. At that time there were only 10 people infected by the coronavirus.

Constant Communications:

From Mid-January the Vietnamese government was trying to communicate widely to the citizens about the seriousness of this virus. It was made clear to the citizens that it was not just any bad flu but to take it seriously and people were advised not to go in any public places. The government was being creative to communicate with people through social media. They gave out all the information related to COVID-19 throughout the country and even about those who left being quarantine.

The three ways of the government may not be fully consistent for all but they are working. Through these strategies from the beginning, they have proved to keep the mortality rate to be zero. And after a long quarantine and lockdown Vietnam is going to ease as the number of cases is decreasing.
